Washinton D.C. Relay

Runnin' N Hummin',

I hope everyone made it back okay. I had a great time and wanted to say thanks to the team for a very enjoyable experience. I'm happy I made the trip up to Tiffani's Thurs night to spend more time with the team, especially the members of Van 1 since we didn't get much time together. Thanks for your hospitality Tiffani & Tony! Many thanks to our gracious volunteers, Tamera, Tony, Tannia, Kendra & Zachary. We couldn't have done it without you, so thank you again for all your support, and enduring the weather! Also, thanks to whoever helped out with returning the vans, hope it didn't involve too much cleanup. Credit for the Little Rock Motel idea goes to Tammy - great recommendation!

Kudos to our Team Capt Tracy and co-Capt Tiffani. You guys did an excellent job managing the logistics of this race. I know it wasn't an easy task. Nothing is ever easy when you're trying to organize 12 people, plus volunteers and last minute race changes. I also enjoyed your creativity and team spirit. It's very obvious you spent many hours creating the Runnin' N Hummin' theme and that you're passionate about what you do. Thank you!!

Having never run a relay with multiple legs, I was curious to see how I would hold up. I haven't been doing any speedwork so I was a little concerned when I saw my projected pace of 6:45, not sure why I provided that kind of pace. I guess that's my best 10k pace. I certainly wouldn't have been able to hold that pace on Sue's first 2 legs. With the conditions, no sleep, rain, terrain and darkness then the humidity, I'd say we held together pretty nicely. However, I think next time I'll give myself a little more cushion. Here are my results: Leg 1 was 6:39 pace, Leg 2 7:15 and Leg 3 7:05. To my surprise, I held up okay, but I'm paying the price now. My quads are very sore and my calfs were stiff this morning, I think a nice walk is in order for this afternoon. Otherwise, I'm taking it easy today. Beth wore the kids out as well. Tim & Ian are napping, Erin is at a birthday party, Sean & I are watching football. I like the idea of having the entire team in one van (like the 100on100 in VT that Kyle did), or in one location (like the relay Cherie did in Prince William County) where runners take turns running an 8 mile loop. I'm sure I'll do another Ragnar, too many cool places to go - I like the thought of running from San Antonio to Austin. Keep me in mind when you're putting a team together, I'll try to figure out how to find time in my marathon schedule. I'm shooting for 4 marathons next year, we'll see. Next up for me: Army 10 miler and NYC marathon.

We finished 66/109! It was great meeting all of you and I hope to see you again sometime soon. Recover smartly, Mike Quote of the day from Van 2: These hills aren't fuckin' around!! - Sue on Leg 7 (thankfully she enjoyed her second leg, which was labeled very hard as well.) She probably had the toughest run of all and was a pretty good sport about it. Hope you're not too sore today Sue. I think I enjoyed her quote so much because I knew exactly how she felt. My last (& toughest) marathon was just west of Cumberland, in the hills of WV - it was brutal!Cheers
